Money gone in a UPI fraud: the first sixty minutes

The first hour matters most. Tick the steps as you go; nothing you tick is stored anywhere.

• Call 1930, the national cyber fraud helpline, immediately.
• Report the fraud on cybercrime.gov.in, the national cyber crime portal. Note the acknowledgement number.
• Call your bank on the number printed on the back of your card or on the bank’s official website. Never call a number from a search result or a message. Ask them to mark the transaction disputed.
• Save everything: screenshots, transaction IDs, the fraudster’s number or UPI ID, and the time of each call you make.
• Put your complaint to the bank in writing, by email or through its app, and keep the reference number.
• Tell your family what happened, without shame. Every story told openly protects someone else.
